Like many modern Volvos, the V60 is a smart dresser. Inside and out-, this estate car looks the biz: premium; and unapologetically style over substance—in the best way possible. Unlike its predecessor, this incarnation of the V60 brings the fight to its German competitors, namely the Audi A4 Avant, Mercedes C-Class Estate and BMW 3 Series Touring.

Equipment, options and extras
Even the entry-level Momentum model brings many luxuries: satnav, LED lights, powered tailgate and 12in digital instrument display. The Momentum Pro introduces a head-up display, leather trim, adaptive LED headlights, and heated front seats and steering wheel.
Those with a sporty side should check out the R-Design for its lowered suspension, larger (18in) alloy wheels and gloss black exterior pieces. But there’s still more glamour to be uncovered, with the Inscription, which brings wood inlays inside and much chrome outside. And then there’s the Pro, which introduces 19in alloy wheels and ventilated seats with nappa leather.
The plugin hybrid Polestar Engineered T8 version has 19in alloys, a heated steering wheel, an upgraded Harman Kardon sound system, and a set of Öhlins adjustable dampers and a bespoke suspension tune. You might also consider the V60 Cross-Country, which is essentially a raised-up and ruggeder version of the V60, 6cm higher than the standard model and designed for extra stability offroad.
Costs, insurance groups, mpg and CO2
The V60 comes with a wide range of sensibly sized 2L petrol and diesel engines, kicking off with a 148bhp version badged as the D3. Then there’s the more powerful 187bhp unit, badged as D4. For petrol lovers there’s the lone 247bhp engine (T5), as well as two plugin hybrid T8 models in standard 385bhp or 399bhp Polestar Engineered forms. Meanwhile, every diesel model can be specified with either 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic gearbox, and the petrol and plugin hybrids are all automatics.
In 2020 the range was tweaked to include only petrol and diesel engines incorporating an electric motor to render them mild-hybrid cars, badged with a B. Then from 2022 the lineup became petrol-only, comprising a 2.0 B3P, 2.0 B4P, 2.0 T5 and 2.0 T6 RC plugin hybrid electric.
