The Vauxhall Mokka brings a raft of equipment, a range of engines, and lots of options for personalisation. Find *your* Mokka at Car Planet!

The Vauxhall Mokka might not be a bona fide game changer, but there’s no doubt it’s improved the market by having offered a high-riding small SUV to buyers on a budget for a competitive price.

This second-generation model is closely related to the mighty Peugeot 2008, and even comes with a similar lineup of engines. There’s the manual or automatic gearbox, as well as the 1.2L turbocharged petrol with one of three outputs: 99, 128 or 134bhp.

Equipment, options and extras

The entry-level Design trim covers you for pretty much all the everyday basics: aircon, cruise control, LED headlights, 16in alloy wheels and touchscreen infotainment.

Even so, we recommend stepping up to mid-spec GS trim. It doesn’t cost much more, and the luxuries are excellent: 18in wheels, climate control, built-in satnav, larger infotainment system, rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and heated front seats and steering wheel.

And if you want your Mokka to have all the goodies, you need the top-spec Ultimate trim, with blind spot monitoring, front parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, and electric driver’s seat with adjustable lumbar support and massage.

Costs, insurance groups, mpg and CO2

If you’re buying outright, the Mokka will set you back about the same as its rival, with the Škoda Kamiq coming in a little cheaper and the Ford Puma and Peugeot 2008 a little pricier. In fact, the mid-spec GS trim is priced competitively compared to its rivals, given the equipment it brings.

However, the Mokka is predicted to depreciate faster than both the Kamiq and the Puma, which may affect how competitive its PCP finance rates are, and the amount you’ll be able to sell it for.

That being said, the Mokka boasts relatively low CO2 emissions, so it makes a lot of financial sense for company car drivers by virtue of its BIK tax bracket. The 1.2 petrol 130 manages 42mpg. But of course, if you want to keep your BIK payments as low as possible, you probably want to check out the Vauxhall Mokka Electric.

Safety and security

The Mokka comes with a raft of safety equipment as standard, including lane-keeping assistance and automatic emergency braking. The top-spec Ultimate trim brings more still: the automatic brings blind spot monitoring and a lane-positioning assistant, and its automatic emergency braking system is complemented by car and pedestrian recognition.

Reliability

Every new Vauxhall comes with a 3-year or 60,000-mile warranty. That’s average for the class, and not as competitive as its rival Hyundai, which offers 5 years, or Kia, which offers 7.

The Car Planet verdict

The Mokka boasts a ton of equipment and loads of great personalisation options, as well as a handy range of frugal and efficient engines. That being said, there are more well-rounded choices available in the small SUV class, including the more spacious and comfortable Škoda Kamiq, and the more exciting and economical Ford Puma.
