The Peugeot 107 is a fantastic drive, boasting capable handling and a powerful little engine. While it could be a touch more refined, the boot a little bigger, the rear space a little less tight, for a car its age you’ve got to hand it to the 107: it represents outstandingly good value.

Equipment, options and extras
The Peugeot 107 is available with only one engine, a three-cylinder 1L petrol alive with a thrumming ambience. The 107 is at its best when it’s in the city, with a performance that’s keen and perky and superlative at taking advantage of gaps in traffic. It’s a tad less impressive at high speeds, but certainly not to the extent as to be unworthy of an investment.
Along with its single engine option comes just a single trim level, too. The Urban brings electric front windows, remote central locking, basic stability control and an MP3-ready CD stereo. This range of kit beat s the 107’s rivals the Citroën C1 and Toyota Aygo with ease. In fact, the only real choice you’ll need to make is whether to go for three or five doors. The former is cheaper—but of course the latter is eminently easier for passengers to get into.
Costs, insurance groups, mpg and CO2
The Peugeot 107 is a little pricier than its competitor the Toyota Aygo, which makes sense given that the 107 comes with more kit. But the Aygo boasts stronger retained residuals, so a used 107 will likely have lost more of its value, thereby evening up the prices somewhat. But then the 107 has utterly miniscule running costs, with its small engine returning a stellar 61mpg, sending you on a cool 470 miles on a single tank. Even its insurance premiums are reasonable, and a service will set you back only about as much as it would on the 107’s rivals the Citroën C1 or Toyota Aygo—and still less than on many of its other competitors.

Safety and security
The Peugeot 107 includes both driver and passenger airbags as standard on most models, along with side airbags and sometimes even curtain airbags, although it’s worth noting that few used 107s will have the latter. Nevertheless, with even just its basic form of stability control, the 107 will outperform most of its city car competitors when it comes to safety.
The Car Planet verdict
The Peugeot 107 is an incredibly capable car, particularly in the city. It’s classically ‘cheap and cheerful’, boasting more safety equipment than many of its rivals while providing an inarguably decent ride.
