The Mercedes CLA is generously equipped—even the entry-level Sport Executive trim brings heated front seats, satnav, LED headlights and a reversing camera. That being said, we still recommend the AMG Line Executive, not only for its sportier exterior and snazzy interior styling, but also for its groovy ambient lighting and sports front seats in Artico leather. Costs, insurance groups, mpg and CO2
The Mercedes CLA is priced considerably higher than its cousin the A-Class, but then it does undercut the Volkswagen Arteon and Audi A5 Sportback—and holds its value better than those rivals, too. This keeps its monthly PCP quotes affordable—well, until you start looking at the AMG 35 and 45 models, anyway.
Company car drivers will be most interested in the plugin hybrid 250e for its low CO2 emissions and respectable electric-only range.
By way of comparison, the plugin hybrid Arteon is in a higher tax bracket because of its shorter electric range. Finally, the CLA’s fuel economy is roughly equal to that of its rivals. The petrol CLAs just pip the 35 TFSI A5 Sportback for emissions—although the latter in turn pips the diesel CLA.
