The Škoda Superb is a capacious, comfortable, and magnificently equipped executive car. Find *your* Superb at Car Planet today!

We all know there’s more to a large executive car than its proportions—but with a model as capacious at the Škoda Superb, it sure is hard to look to past them.

…But if you do, you’ll be presented with a choice of petrol and diesel engines—and a whole heap of goodies.

Equipment, options and extras

Even the entry-level SE model brings a raft of fun stuff: cruise control, keyless control, 17in alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, power-folding door mirrors and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. And that’s not to mention the numerous parking aids and infotainment features.

If you want to splash out a little, consider moving up a trim to the SE Technology. This Superb comes with privacy glass, leather upholstery, adaptive cruise control, heated front seats and an electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

But our favourite has to be the SE L. It brings keyless entry, 18in alloy wheels and dynamic indicators, as well as matrix LED headlights and an electrically operated tailgate.

Costs, insurance groups, mpg and CO2

Company car users will favour the entry-level diesel engine, as it produces the lowest CO2 emissions and therefore sits in a lower BIK tax band than any other engine. Even so, it can’t compete with the plugin hybrid versions of the Škoda Superb’s rivals the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, both boasting even lower emissions.

Private buyers will love the Superb’s economy. Our favourite engine is the entry-level 1.5 TSI 150, which runs at up to 44mpg. Those seeking even more efficiency will want to check out the diesels—the smallest 2.0 TDI 150 manages up to 56mpg, and the 2.0 TDI 200 manages 52mpg.

Safety and security

Euro NCAP awarded the Superb a full five stars for safety. Every model comes with an array of safety kit, including stability control, a post-collision braking system, and seven airbags, including one for the driver’s knee. All models also come with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking. Blind spot monitoring is optional on the entry-level SE trim, and standard from the SE Technology. Finally, every Superb comes with an alarm and immobiliser as standard.

Reliability

The Superb comes with a 3-year or 60,000-mile warranty, as well as a 12-year anti-corrosion guarantee. That’s great, although not as great as the 7-year warranty from Kia, or indeed the unlimited-mileage warranties offered by BMW and Mercedes. That being said, you can extend the Superb’s warranty to 5 years or 100,000 miles for a reasonable one-off cost.

The Car Planet verdict

The Škoda Superb is capacious, comfortable, and magnificently equipped. If you don’t mind foregoing a premium German badge, it’s a wonderful executive car.
